Social media has nicknamed Jeuveau™ #NEWTOX because of it's similarity to BOTOX® Cosmetic, but are they really the same?
Jeuveau™ is also a neurotoxin like BOTOX® Cosmetic and it can be injected in between the eyebrows to stop the natural muscle contractions that form the wrinkles. It can also prevent new lines from forming and smooth out the old ones which could potentially deepen with time.
The safety and effectiveness profile for Jeuveau™ is similar to the one of Botox® Cosmetic. Therefore, the injectable can be substituted for one another. Those who have had Botox® Cosmetic injections in the past can switch to Jeuveau™ because they are essentially the same treatments. Jeuveau™ is a neuromodulator and will produce similar results to Botox® Cosmetic in the patient. The reason for the interchangeability of the drugs is not because the compound they contain is similar but because they have the same efficacy profile.
So, what does all this mean? Yes, they are the same in that they do the same thing.
